If you
think that engineering is boring, how about you give it another look from a
different perspective
Just recently while surfing on the
internet, I found a few articles talking about just how boring engineering was.
Naturally, this peeked my interest although with quite a contorted face. The
interest was because, there must be a new perspectives that these writers must
have that the rest of us do not, and the contorted face because I was dreading
that it was just some click bait. To my surprise, they were actually raising
some points from a serious perspective. In short, they were actually serious
about their point of view about the matter. At this point I was definitely
shocked and horrified at the same time. If you think engineering is
uninteresting or boring, then just read this and hopefully you will change your
perspective about the matter.
If you
think about absolutely anything at all, it is almost a given that engineering
has something to do with it. Whether it is in the construction of the thing or
in the design of the thing, you can bet that engineering has something to do
with it. The point that I am trying to make here is that engineering is a very
wide field. It encompasses everything from what a bridge construction company would do, to what a paper manufacturing company would do. Like with
everything else, there are some interesting things that engineering does as
well as some uninteresting things that engineering does, or does it?
The truth of the matter is
that your perspective is what matters most. If you think that mathematics and
science is boring, then you will probably not like some of the things that
engineering does. You may think that something more creative is right up your
alley. Well, here is the surprise, engineering is like the perfect meshing of
both of these worlds. If you just look around you, and have a look at the chair
that you are sitting on, the desk you are working on, the room that you are in,
the building that you can see, the bridge construction that is on your way from the closest town and
all the way to what the guys in space are doing, you will not only see
interesting design elements that used a lot of science and mathematics to get
done but they also involved a lot of creativity as well. Therefore, the nest
time you look at anything that man has built, you can be sure that some
engineering went into that as well. Back to the point, what matters is your
perspective, if you have interest in being creativity, then how about you
gravitate towards the creative side of engineering. If on the other hand you
have an analytical mind, then engineering will be a perfect home for you as
well. At the end of the day, what matters most is that the future will be
shaped by engineers and you need to decide which side of the future you want to
be on.
